Unleashed
By Wing-Sheung Lee

Unleashed was a man named Danny (Jet Li) who was raised as a mindless and obedience fighting machine. When Danny’s owner Bart (Hoskins) released the leash, Danny became a mindless fighter who won’t stop fighting until the opponents were killed or otherwise, stopped by Bart. Later in the movie, Danny was accepted by a blind piano tuner (Freeman) and began a new life with the family. However, as soon as Bart found out Danny’s new life, he tried every way he can to destroy his harmony life and back to the lifeless killing machine.

At first, I didn’t have a high expectation on this film because after I saw his last films “Romeo Must Die”, “Kiss of The Dragon”, and “The One”, I was rather disappointed. However, Unleashed had a completely different style from his older films. In this film, Jet Li’s fighting style was completely changed from his norm. There was no anti-gravity move nor any fancy kicks or punches. You won’t see his traditional Shaolin or Wushu based fighting style. Every single movement was as real as a regular street fight. The most of the punches and kicks were so natural that even an untrained human can lean them easily. His acting skills have improved for the past years. Although he didn’t have to speak much in this movie, but his facial expression and his body language were very well delivered.

If you want to see a brand new side of Jet-Li’s action movie, I suggest you don’t miss the Unleashed. It will not lead you to disappointment (at least, not to me).
