Given Name (Tibetan Buddhist): Nyingje Norbu "Meaning ~ Compassionate Excellence"
Shihan Carter was born in a small rural town in Ontario Canada. His mother worked a local Piano factory. His father was a machinist at another local factory and is former president and vice president of a local motorcycle clubs. As a youth getting in trouble was not uncommon; he was one of “the rougher crowed” a “street punk”.
Shihan Carter started his martial training in the early 1980’s, beginning with judo lessons that he received from his elementary school physical education teacher. He later moved on to training in the art of Black Dragon Kung Fu.
Shihan Carter drifted away from the formal martial arts training and went back to learn life from hanging out on the streets. Over the next 8 years he found out quickly what techniques worked on the street and what ones didn’t and in the process learned many new ones. He resumed his formal martial training soon after the birth of his first son. This was a turning point in his life. He was a new father but he was also about to join a Karate Dojo that would change his whole life outlook.
The Club was called “Kim’s Shotokan” its now called “K&D Martial Arts Centres~BrotherHood” and its head instructor is Shihan Lance Anderson an incredible Karatedo and Jujitsu practitioner and instructor. He is a student of Sensei Ross Smith, himself a student of Kim Hooi Wong. Sensei Kim Hooi Wong was a 5th degree black belt, President and Chief Instructor of the Shotokan Association of Malaysia. But Shihan Anderson is even more known for having the heart of a true warrior. Shihan Anderson has run his clubs “not-for-profit” for over 25 years. And has gone as far as teaching many young men and woman for free that were unable to go else ware because of their financial situations.
After many years of hard training Mr. Carter was honored enough to received his Black Belt in Shotokan Karate from Shihan Anderson. He was also honored to receive his Black Belt in Seishindo Jujitsu from the Founder and Hall of Famer himself, Soke Steve Lonsdale soon afterwards. He has gone on to receive his 3rd Degree Black Belt in both Shotokan Karate and Seishindo Jujitsu.
In early 2000 the art of Nyingbulam was born. Sensei Carter took his years of martial knowledge and training in various arts such as Karate and Jujitsu (modern as well as traditional.) as well as the knowledge he learned from his early days as a street punk and blended it together to form a martial syllabus that is not just a highly effective form of self-defence, but is also based on the roots of compassion for all; friend and foe.
Since its inception Nyingbulam has been recognise and sanction the world over by many national and international organizations. Shihan Carter has been published in magazines, such as “The Who is Who of Martial Arts” by the Martial Art Association-International, as well as “Combat Warrior Martial Arts e-Magazine”. He has also gone on to found the “International Mixed Martial Arts Association” a Not-For-Profit group that’s sole purpose is to unite and build a more organized mixed martial artists union on a world stage. He is also the president of “Compassionate Arts Federation” as well as “K&D Martial Arts Centres~BrotherHood” which has dojo’s across Ontario, Canada.
