Sem Schilt – The Hightower

Sem Schilt (born October 27, 1973 in Rotterdam) is a Dutch kickboxer, mixed martial artist and Seido Kaikan karate fighter as well as World Champion in the 2005 and 2006 K-1 Grand Prix tournaments in Japan.

Semmy is a Polyglot, speaking several languages fluently. November 19, 2005 K-1 Grand Prix -As an Ashihara Karate fighter, Schilt beat defending champion Remy Bonjasky by knockout in the 2005 K-1 Grand Prix semifinals. Schilt then met Glaube Feitosa in the tournament finals and won by knockout due to knee strike. On December 31, 2005 he also defeated former four time K-1 World Grand Prix champion Ernesto Hoost.

On April 3, 2007 he defeated Ray Sefo by 2nd rd. KO to become K-1's first Super Heavyweight Champion at K-1 World GP 2007 Yokohama. Sefo managed to knock down Schilt at the end of the first round, however, Schilt returned the favor in the second round.

His fight against Russian hope Sergei Kharitonov in PRIDE was marked by excellent standup striking by both men followed by a powerful ground attack by the Russian. Despite an excellent sweep reversal by Schilt, Kharitonov was able to subsequently control the giant Dutchman, raining down hammer fists and punches that eventually opened a cut on Semmy's forehead over his right eye. With blood streaming into Schilt's eye the referee was forced to stop the fight. Schilt's team objected to Kharitonov grabbing the ropes to prevent a sweep about a minute before the fight was stopped, but the referee missed this infraction. K-1 has announced that Semmy will face K-1 Hawaii GP Champion Mighty Mo on June 23rd, 2007 at the K-1 Amsterdam GP.
