MMA Legend Carlson Gracie Sr. Passes Away at 72

On February 1, 2006, Carlson Gracie Sr. passed away at Lincoln Park Hospital in Chicago. He was 72 years old. Carlson Sr., who suffered from diabetes, was hospitalized after experiencing complications from kidney stones.

Carlson was born on August 13, 1935 in Botafogo, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He was a practitioner of the Brazilian martial art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. He learned the art from his father Carlos Gracie, co-founder of the system with his brother Helio Gracie.

Carlson will be missed by all in the MMA community.
